Biography of

Monwabisi Lindi 

Monwabisi Lindi is a Port Elizabeth-born opera singer currently living in Motherwell. His talent was first recognised when he won first prize in the tenor category of the 2006 South African Post Office Choral Eisteddfod; this led to him being invited to join the Blacktie Ensemble's young artist programme. In 2008 he won a scholarship to further his singing studies at Tshwane University of Technology in the Vocal Arts Department under the direction of Pierre du Toit.

 

In 2011 he was invited to participate in the Ningbo International Voice Competition in China and from 2013–2016 he was a member of Cape Town Opera Vocal Ensemble, with whom he toured all over Europe performing the role of Crabman in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. In 2016–2017 he appeared in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Edinburgh Festival Theatre and Opéra de Lille. He is currently working as a freelance tenor.
